Its no secret Brooklyn has been growing. From the artsy vibes of Williamsburg to the variety of downtown Brooklyn, Brooklyn is truly becoming a city of its own.
However, despite increased real estate development, the borough's skyline remains highly unattractive. For the most part, it consists of plain-designed buildings where the development was strictly focused on maximizing floor spaces and thus, profits.
“If you don’t have background buildings and have all iconic buildings, nothing stands out." - Joseph Brancato, co-managing principal for an architecture and design firm.
There has been such a focus on growing Brooklyn financially, and developers are simply unconcerned with inspirational designs at the moment. The extraordinary wealth of Manhattan and its corporations has inclined some of its corporations to invest in architectural branding investments.
Although Brooklyn does not maintain such wealth just yet, there is certainly a need for attractive development on even a small scale. One fancy design is all it takes to catapult the boroughs skyline.
Should developers focus on developing attractive designs, or is the focus right where it needs to be?
